The new trends in education increasingly demand greater care for the teaching-learning processes of the student, as a response to the social need to train people with skills and competences to train effectively and significantly improve their academic performance. The present research emphasizes the inappropriate use of the Internet by young people, and its possible influence on school performance; since it was determined: the causes, problems and effects about the excessive use of the internet by adolescents using it as a means of communication, interaction and fun; as well as neglecting academic aspects. When making the diagnosis, it is examined that the external aspects affect the use of the internet for the entertainment and leisure of the students, through the F.O.D.A. workshop these factors are delimited, establishing strategies that later lead to the timely and adequate use of the internet by students for the benefit in their educational training. Finally, with the correlational study, the dependence of the hours of internet use destined to acquiring knowledge and complement learning, which directly impacts their academic performance, is determined.La investigación se estructuró metodológicamente para el estudio del empleo del internet y su influencia en la formación educativa de los estudiantes de tercer año de bachillerato de la Unidad Educativa “Gabriel García Moreno”. Las nuevas tendencias de la educación cada vez demandan mayor cuidado a los procesos de enseñanza aprendizaje del estudiante, como respuesta a la necesidad social de formar personas con aptitudes y competencias para formarse eficazmente y mejorar significativamente su rendimiento académico. La presente investigación hace énfasis en el inadecuado uso del internet por parte de los jóvenes y su posible influencia en el rendimiento escolar; ya que se determinó: las causas, problemas y efectos acerca del uso desmedido del internet por parte de los adolescentes utilizándolo como un medio de comunicación, interacción y diversión; así como también descuidando aspectos académicos. Al efectuar el diagnóstico se examina que los aspectos externos inciden en el uso del internet destinado al entretenimiento y ocio de los estudiantes, mediante el taller F.O.D.A. se delimitan estos factores, estableciendo estrategias que posteriormente direccionen al empleo oportuno y adecuado del internet de los estudiantes para el beneficio en su formación educativa.
