Universidad de Otavalohttp://repositorio.uotavalo.edu.ec/handle/52000/464The objectives of this work lie in identifying the patterns related to the gender violence, with particular emphasis on femicide as the most extreme of this type of violence and, secondly, to describe the characteristics of the victim and the aggressor from a gender perspective, through the analysis of cycles of violence and the different areas and scenarios where they take place. To get started, It is pertinent to mention that the phenomenon of gender violence is characterized by the positioning of the feminine in a condition of subordination and inferiority, with the presence of dynamics in which there is evidence of an abuse of power that is based on the structures of a patriarchal society. Given this, Ecuador is one of the countries that has striving to bring about change around violence against women, and especially in the typification of femicide; however, the resources available to take action concrete and prosecute these crimes are limited. Therefore, in the present work, seeks to provide the reader with a perspective of the reality around gender violence and femicide in Ecuador, based on current and representative statistics.Los objetivos del presente trabajo radican en, identificar los patrones relacionados con la violencia de género, con énfasis particular en el femicidio como la manifestación más extrema de este tipo de violencia y, en segundo lugar, describir las características de la víctima y el victimario desde una perspectiva de género, mediante el análisis de los ciclos de la violencia y de los diferentes ámbitos y escenarios donde se gestan. Para empezar, es pertinente mencionar que el fenómeno de la violencia de género se caracteriza por el posicionamiento de lo femenino en una condición de subordinación e inferioridad, con la presencia de dinámicas en las que se evidencia un abuso de poder que se cimenta en las estructuras de una sociedad patriarcal. Ante ello, Ecuador es uno de los países que se ha esforzado por generar cambios en torno a la violencia contra las mujeres, y especialmente en la tipificación del femicidio; sin embargo, los recursos disponibles para tomar acciones concretas y juzgar estos delitos son limitados.
